Felicity's bed...a lucky find!

While on a visit to my favorite consignment shop, Through the Garden Gate Antiques, I found in one of the consignment booths, Felicity's bed. It had been marked down to $65 and I cannot tell you how surprised I was to see it there. So I brought it home. It is is in near perfect, mint condition- all its linens, curtains, ties, all intact.

I decided to go ahead and take some great pictures of it with my Bespaq pieces so you could see it in a diorama setting. It looks so REAL ! Felicity is pleased as punch and so is Gracie, my camera loving bjd.

The bed by itself.

Felicity loves her room even if it is a temporary setup for now. My Bespaq pieces look wonderful with it. It will be so nice to get the new doll room set up which is in the process and the shelves built so I can have these pieces displayed.

Gracie looks wonderful beside it, I know Tonner dolls would look fabulous, especially the Anne de Leger and the Pirates of the Caribean dolls dressed in 18th century dress.
Enjoy- this makes me want to start sewing Felicity and Gracie more dresses....

Annabelle's new wig and other goodies...

Annabelle got her new wig and some other goodies as well this weekend.

The wig is a strawberry blonde versus a honey blonde like it was described and the curls are very all over the place but it makes her endearing. I thought it would match the color in her previous wig that she came with, which is a much fairer blonde and more closely matches the drawings of Annabelle in the book A is for Annabelle by Tasha Tudor but it does not. But I do like it and think it makes her adorable looking.

The croquet mallets with their matching balls are perfect and from Byer's choice off of Ebay. Alot of Byer's choice items , in their accessories are scaled to fit 12 inch or 15 inch french fashion dolls, you just have to pay careful attention to the measurements. I have lusted after the carriage but do not think this would work for her as the carriage is not tall enough, though it is a wonderful prop for her to stand outside of.  I will be getting another pattern to make her croquet outfit with and I know exactly what fabric I will be using, just need to find the correct hat.

The Gildebrief pattern books I ordered also arrived, and so I am all set to make her simple dresses, especially the one for fall. Annabelle needs a nice fall dress to go walking about the park and having picnics in, as well as going to apple harvests and pumpkin festivals.

These two magazines have a 2 part article series called " 1 governess and 6 cousins at a picnic" where some ladies used one pattern with different variations of sleeves, belts, pleats and shawls, coats, etc to give a simple dress different looks. I think the plaid dress is just adorable and I have a plaid challis that will be perfect for her fall outfit. So looks like I have some sewing to do!

Review of Melissa & Doug cutlery

I purchased the Melissa and Doug cutlery set after making sure that it would work with my American Girl dolls and be sizeable with the larger scale doll foods I want to create for them, and the bjd's. I also purchased the party plates and cups put out by American Girl available at Michael's stores.

I used a 50% coupon on the M& D set at ACMoore. It was 14.99 so I got it for about 7.50. I used a 40% off coupon on the American Girl party set which was 5.99 at Michaels, so that was a steal too.

Melissa & Doug Mealtime Utensil set. It comes with 16 pieces, four knives, four forks, four soup spoons, four smaller spoons I would classify as dessert or coffee spoons, and a wire basket

American Girl crafts Petite Party Settings

 photo IMG_0886_zpsyyln1kwl.jpg

The fork is really HUGE, larger than the knife. Pared with the American Girl party plates and cups, it's really too big. I thought in the store they would be compatible. The plates need to be bigger with these utensils. So do the cups. These are the smaller spoons- I didn't even use the big spoons in the placement since the forks are so ginormous!

 photo IMG_0889_zpsr8qo9omz.jpg

Fork with the doll's hand. Again, large but not that large. You'll see when I use a larger plate.

Comparison with spoon and knife against hand. Again, a little large, but when I switch out the American girl party plates for other ones, you will see.

This time, I switched out the party plates for real china plates from my collection. Now the utensils look proportional to the doll.

(Pay no attention to those table legs in the background, lol) Becca looks happy at the pretty plates and utensils now.

The plate is four inches across in diameter, as 1:3 scale should be.

 photo IMG_0905_zpsxtjkerp7.jpg

Though I think these plates are four inches wide, their actual diameter is probably only three inches.  They are still 1:3 scale. The cups in my opinion need to be far larger, which are more 1:4 scale than 1;3 scale. AG has never been very 'scale' accurate.

 photo IMG_0902_zpsr7rvngwy.jpg

I would say the knife is about 5 or 6 inches long. The spoon is also proportional to the china plate I have. These are from a child's pre-occupied Japan tea set that has been in the family for over 55 years from my husband's family, so it is fun to use it.

 photo IMG_0900_zpsbrj8otvm.jpg

The fork is very long. But one thing to remember is these are child sized, useable for children from age 3+ and up and dishwasher safe, so they can be used with 'real' food.

I would say if you had very large BJD's- 58 +, 60, and 70 cm bjd's , Masterpiece dolls, or even My Twinn dolls, this set would work very well with it, with the American Girls, Kato Kids, A Girl of All Time, Gotz Kids, and dolls that size acting as children dolls, and the My Twinns acting as parents, or large porcelains acting as the parents. You could still fudge on the scale with this set as long as your plates are four inches in diameter, in my opinion.

I am going to be looking for a smaller set for utensils for the AG's,I remember a link somewhere, but need to look for it. They just need to be a trifle shorter than this to work for 18 inch dolls.

Hope this was helpful! Lisa

Becca here...I'm back!

Hi Becca here! Yes I'm back! My mom has been dreadfully busy with other dolls and lots of other stuff. Kit has left us but Felicity and I are still here.

Good news! I got new glasses! AND a new outfit! My mom has promised to spend more time with me and Felicity and the other 'big' dolls as she refers to us, as she has been creating more and more larger doll foods. Plus, she said she misses us. Here is my new outfit!

I can hardly wait to eat them! She even made me  a toasted cheese bagel with grape soda! Boy am I hungry!

My mom makes great hot dogs, but she must have forgot the mustard and relish. Oh well, I'm so hungry I could eat that and the plate! It's been a real busy morning!

Going to see what else is in the fridge!

Maybe there's some ice cream in the freezer?

 photo IMG_0851_zpsd1dl5n7i.jpg

Oh wow, my favorites! Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Fudge Brownie! It's simply stuffed with Ben & Jerry's!

Well, thanks for stopping by to visit me at lunch time! I'm going to be taking you along on my adventures, and blogging alot more, I promise. Annabelle, Mom's french fashion reproduction doll, for Tasha Tudor's storybook  A is for Annabelle, is going to be here too. So will Felicity, only she's not so comfortable coming out of the 18th century like I am time traveling.  Going to be adding alot more links to the sidebar of other dolls we follow, too. Enjoy!
